VoiceDesk 12B is a peripheral for allowing voice communication over phone lines. It provides all the functions needed for an IVR system: ring detection, line pickup, playback of recordings stored in its memory, reception of tone dialing, and functions for call switching.

Computer-controlled mode

In the basic mode of operation, VoiceDesk is connected to a computer through a serial port (RS 232C). Its communication with the computer is performed using text commands. The computer does not handle sound recordings directly, but only supplies the numbers of recordings that VoiceDesk stores in its memory. VoiceDesk reports to the computer a ring on the line for the received tone dialing codes. Thanks to this solution, it can communicate on several lines at a time, even at several VoiceDesk devices, if necessary.

Autonomous mode

In simple applications, e.g., for switching calls, VoiceDesk can be used separately, without a computer. The application is programmed as a script in the Flex programming language. The script is downloaded to VoiceDesk from a temporarily connected computer or is stored directly in the memory card (e.g., from a notebook). After a restart, VoiceDesk will start executing the script.

Connection to branch exchange

VoiceDesk is usually connected to a branch exchange. In the maximum configuration, up to 12 analog lines can be connected to it. VoiceDesk uses only the common functions ("flash" for call switching and tone dialing) that are available with virtually any branch exchange. Therefore, it is not limited to any specific type of exchange.

Selection of memory size

VoiceDesk can be supplied with a memory of 16, 32, 64, 96, 128, 192, 224, or 512 MB. The size of memory needed for a specific application can be estimated using the following table.

64 MB
1 hr
E-banking, providing basic information and switching calls, automatic ordering system – multi-language versions of the applications
128 MB
2 hrs
Large-scale multi-language e-banking
512 MB
8 hrs
Large-scale multi-language e-banking, combined with other client services
